With an extremely long frontage to the River Colne this narrow piece of land used to be the quay for the old Colchester coal fired gas power station, small freighters used to bring coal up alongside to be unloaded at Gas Quay.
After years of neglect it is hoped that one day this site can be economically redeveloped to form the centre piece of the Hythe Regeneration Area.
The images here show a contemporary design for a scheme of 36 apartments. These plans were prepared by the internationally recognised London based firm of architects Weston Williamson.
Whilst this scheme was worked up into detailed plans, it was found to be uneconomic and therefore has been shelved at the current time.
We are currently looking at alternative ideas for the site with a view to bringing forward this visually critical development, in the future.
