Cavalry Road, Colchester
The final building to be restored as part of former Cavalry and Le Cateau Barracks buildings that we own.
Part of the Le Cateau Barracks, this fine building is the last of the buildings that we have restored the former at Colchester Garrison. Having suffered years of neglect, the building had been severely affected by a dry rot outbreak which had seen most of the internal woodwork destroyed. Much of the internal plasterwork had also been removed to prevent the spread of the dry rot fungus.
Building work is now complete the roof has been replaced, the external brickwork has been restored and repointed and the heads and cills restored. Many of the windows had been affected by the dry rot and these have been replaced or repaired.
We have converted the building into just five, large two bedroom, two bathroom apartments. There are three apartments on the ground floor, two of which will have private courtyard gardens. On the first floor there are two further apartments including number 18 which has a magnificent living room with an ornately coved ceiling which despite having collapsed in places has been restored to its former glory by specialist craftsmen.
Whilst the exterior of the building has been faithfully restored, the interior offers the latest contemporary fittings, with fully fitted kitchens by the luxury maker Alno and high specification bathrooms with Hans Grohe fittings etc. All the units will have gas fired underfloor heating systems as well as heat recovery air systems. Each apartment has two parking spaces.
