Coggeshall Primary School

Stoneham Street, Coggeshall, Essex: 1996

Award: The Braintree Environmental Heritage Award, 1997

Having stood empty for many years, this small victorian village school was converted in 1997 into 7 houses including the restoration of the much admired former headmaster’s house with its unusual and distincive gingerbread tiled roof. With courtyard gardens to the front of each house, a lot of care was taken in the landscaping to provide private space as well as a high-quality public domain.
