Wiston, Nr.Nayland, Suffolk: 1997
Award: East Anglian Building Awards 1998-Best Restoration and Overall Winner.
Originally built in the 1890’s as a Tuberculosis Isolation Hospital on the southern slope of the internationally famous Stour Valley. This wonderful Arts and Crafts building designed by architects Smith & Brewer had been empty for many years. Converted into eight spectacular houses, great care was taken in preserving the open terraces where patients used ‘take in the air’ as well as the wonderful Chapel at the rear of the main building.
